Description
Yellowstone Caldera is a giant volcanic crater measuring 50 by 70 km, formed 640,000 years ago as a result of a powerful supervolcano eruption.
It is a living geological phenomenon with over 10,000 geothermal features—geysers, hot springs, and colorful thermal pools. Two residual domes still pulsate, fueled by magma just 5-20 km below the surface.
Yellowstone Lake fills the southeastern part of the caldera, and the famous Old Faithful geyser erupts thanks to the heat from Mallard Lake dome.
