Description
Hammastunturi Wilderness Area is a vast wilderness area of 1,825 km² located in Finnish Lapland. It is a place where gold rush history meets traditional reindeer herding by the Sami people.
The area is characterized by the rugged beauty of hills and pine forests, with the highest peak reaching 532 meters. Along marked trails, such as the 12-kilometer Pahaoja-Ivalojoki Kultala trail, one can view rich vegetation and wildlife, including golden eagles and hawk owls.
The Kultala Gold Village is a valuable national cultural monument, recalling the first discoveries of gold in 1868.
