Description

The Istanbul Archaeological Museum is the first official museum facility in the history of the Ottoman Empire, operating since 1891.

Its neo-classical architecture is awe-inspiring, and its interiors hide more than a million priceless artifacts from various ancient civilizations.

Among the most valuable exhibits are the sarcophagus of Alexander the Great, the Treaty of Kadesh and elements of the Ishtar Gate. The museum consists of three parts: the Archaeological Museum, the Museum of the Ancient Orient and the Museum of Tile Kiosks.
