Description
The National Museum in Krakow is the largest and oldest museum in Poland, founded in 1879. It has an impressive collection of more than 780,000 works of art, ranging from classical archaeology to contemporary art, with a special focus on Polish painting and decorative arts.
The museum has three permanent galleries: the Gallery of Decorative Art, the Gallery of 20th Century Polish Art and the Gallery of Arms and Uniforms in Poland. Special guides have been prepared for the youngest visitors, introducing them to the world of art history in an accessible way.
The main building, designed by Boleslaw Szmidt, Czeslaw Boratynski and Edward Kreisler, was built intermittently from 1934 to 1989.
