Description
Matterhorn Museum - Zermatlantis is a unique underground museum that takes visitors on a fascinating journey through the history of Zermatt.
In the original houses and interiors, visitors can learn about the lives of past residents and mountaineers. A multimedia room shows excerpts from the 1937 film 'Der Berg ruft' and scenes of the tragic fall after the first ascent of the Matterhorn.
A special exhibition on the 125-year history of the Gornergrat railroad allows visitors to discover the fascinating past of the region. An illuminated model of the Matterhorn shows the various routes to the summit, and exhibits commemorate the achievements of climbers on the surrounding four-thousand-metre peaks.
