The Capuchin Catacombs of Palermo is one of the most extraordinary sites in Sicily. This fascinating monument hides some 2,000 mummified bodies that have been preserved thanks to a special mummification technique.

The mummies, dressed in formal attire and arranged according to gender and social status, make up a remarkable display. Among them are priests, merchants, professors and entire families.

The most famous mummy is two-year-old Rosalia Lombardo, whose body has been perfectly preserved. It is a unique place that combines history, anthropology and reflection on transience.
