Description

The Machado de Castro National Museum is a true cultural gem of Coimbra, housed in the former Bishop's Palace.

This unique facility combines three fascinating elements: a 1st century Roman cryptoportico, a historic palace and a modern building designed by Gonçalo Byrne.

The museum impresses with its rich collection of 14th-16th century sculptures, sacred jewelry and Portuguese paintings. Especially noteworthy are masterpieces such as the D. Gueda Mendes chalice and the Passion Triptych by Quentin Metsys.

The roof terrace offers a breathtaking view of all of Coimbra.
