Description

Gdansk Museum - Main City Hall is a gem of Gothic and Renaissance architecture, dominating the panorama of the Royal Route.

A tall tower from 1488 with a carillon of 14 bells is only the beginning of the attraction. The interior impresses with rich decorations by Northern Renaissance masters - especially the Red and White Hall.

It's a place where the history of Gdansk comes to life through fascinating displays showing the city's history, its role in trade and politics, and its cultural heritage. The tower gallery offers panoramic views of the city.

avatarTom (Bozz)4 weeks agoAn interesting museum of the town hall, covering the history of Gdansk. Parts of the town hall were heavily damaged in the war. Quite a few stairs, especially if you want to go to the tower. Looks like you can either get a ticket to the tower and the museum or whichever one you want. We didn't do the tower, be a fair few stairs
avatarHeikki Kegg7 months agoI visited the Main Town Hall, which is one of the main exhibitions of the Gdansk Museum. I faced a problem with the backpack in which I kept my camera and lens. It should have been left in a locker for a fee, according to a very rude staff representative. I did not agree to this because I needed my camera equipment and I was also the only foreigner there at the time and only I was asked to leave my backpack for a fee. In the end, however, I was able to visit the nicely compact and yet diverse exhibition with my backpack. The five halls of the Town Hall were magnificent! The art treasures in them were taken to safety from the Second World War with great effort and later returned to their place. The ceiling of the Great Council Chamber in particular is absolutely stunning and the story of its preservation is amazing. The ancient frescoes of the Great Chiristopher are magnificent. I also visited the exhibition about the Polish army and World War II and the exhibition about Polish life upstairs. Unfortunately the clock tower was closed due to the weather (thunderstorm). I can recommend this museum, despite the backpack episode. There is also a free art exhibition near the ticket office.
avatarYarys9 months agoThe Main Town Hall in Gdańsk, located on Długi Targ (Long Market), is one of the most iconic and historic buildings in the city. It was originally constructed in the late 14th century and has been expanded and renovated over the centuries, reflecting the rich architectural and cultural history of Gdańsk. Its Gothic and Renaissance elements make it a masterpiece of Northern European architecture. The tower, standing over 80 meters high, offers a panoramic view of Gdańsk, and the building houses the Historical Museum of Gdańsk, where you can explore exhibits related to the city's history. The richly decorated Great Council Hall (Red Hall), with its stunning ceiling paintings and sculptures, is one of the building’s highlights. The Main Town Hall has survived numerous historical upheavals, including destruction during World War II, but it was meticulously restored to its former glory.
