Description

The Acropolis Museum in Athens is one of the most famous archaeological museums in the world, displaying more than 4,000 artifacts from the Mycenaean to early Christian periods.

The modern edifice, which opened in 2009, was designed to make the archaeological site beneath it part of the exhibition.

Three floors display priceless treasures, including fragments of a Panathenaic frieze chiseled by Phidias, metopes from the Parthenon and the famous 'Athena pensive' stele.

The museum's glass walls offer spectacular views of the Acropolis hill, creating an unusual combination of antiquity and modernity.
