Description

Mosteiro de Santa Clara-a-Velha is a fascinating monument of Gothic architecture in Coimbra. Founded in 1314 by Queen Isabella of Aragon, it impresses with its unique design of three identical naves covered with stone vaults.

After extensive restoration in the late 20th century, the monastery revealed a wealth of treasures and history. Visitors can admire the preserved Gothic ruins, including the lower part of the church and the cloister, which provide a glimpse into the life of the nuns.

An interpretive center displays artifacts found at the site, arranged according to the monastic experience, and audiovisual materials introduce the history of this unique place.
