Description

Pielpajärvi Wilderness Church is one of the oldest buildings in northern Lapland, built between 1752 and 1760. This wooden church, surrounded by pristine nature, was the center of Inari for more than a century and is an important site for Saami culture.

A scenic trail of about 9 km (round trip) leads to the church, passing through ancient forests, heathlands and lake shores. In summer, the route can be shortened by taking a boat to Pielpavuono Bay.

The site is popular with nature lovers as well as those interested in history and culture. There are picnic areas, shelters and a restroom nearby.
