Description

The Church of St. Elisabeth in Marburg is one of the earliest examples of Gothic architecture in Germany, built by the Teutonic Order in 1235 over the tomb of St. Elisabeth of Hungary.

With a vaulted ceiling reaching 20 meters high and two 80-meter towers, this imposing church is resplendent with medieval stained glass windows from the 13th and 14th centuries.

The site has great religious and historical significance - originally Catholic, later Protestant. The golden reliquary of St. Elisabeth, who founded a hospital here for the sick and needy in 1228, has attracted pilgrims for centuries.
