Description
The defensive church in Prejmer is a fascinating monument of Gothic architecture dating back to the 13th century, listed by UNESCO. Built by the Teutonic Order, it features a unique Greek cross plan and impressive fortifications with 40-foot walls and underground passages.
Inside you can admire the region's oldest altar triptych, dating back to 1450, depicting scenes from the Passion of Christ. The church has undergone numerous modifications, including the addition of a bell tower in 1461 and the expansion of the nave in 1512-1515.
It is a unique place where the history of medieval Transylvania comes alive at every turn.
