Description
The Church of the Protection of the Mother of God in Slawatycze is a unique monument of Russian-Byzantine style sacred architecture. Built between 1910 and 1912, it has survived a turbulent history, including an attempted destruction in 1938 that was thwarted by the local Catholic parish priest.
The temple impresses with its four-story iconostasis from the 18th century and unique icons depicting scenes from the life of Christ. Next to the Orthodox church grows a broad-leaved linden tree, a natural monument, where, according to legend, the miraculous image of the Mother of God appeared.
It is a place where history intertwines with spirituality and architecture with nature.
