Description
The Basilica of Euphrasius in Poreč is a unique monument of Byzantine architecture dating back to the 6th century, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It impresses with its golden mosaics depicting biblical scenes, including one of the oldest surviving images of the Virgin and Child in Western Christianity.
Its unique three-pillared structure was innovative at the time and influenced the architecture of Western Europe. The complex also includes an octagonal baptistery, a 16th century bell tower and a bishop's residence.
