Description
Basilique Saint-Just de Valcabrère is an 11th-12th century Romanesque gem, listed by UNESCO as part of the 'Roads of Saint James in France'.
The basilica is built on the site of a Roman necropolis, using stones from the ancient city of Lugdunum Convenarum. The entrance portal is decorated with a tympanum with statues of saints, and under the main altar is a niche where the sick once spent the night in prayer, believing in the healing power of the relics.
It is an important stop for pilgrims heading to Santiago de Compostela, combining spirituality, history and unique architecture.
