Description
Mainzer Fastnachtsmuseum is a fascinating site dedicated to Mainz's famous carnival, known as Fastnacht.
The museum presents the rich history of this tradition dating back to 1837, which was born during the censorship era before the March Revolution of 1848.
Visitors can try on various jester hats, see the famous Schwellköpp (paper heads) used in parades since 1927, and learn about the political and literary roots of the carnival. The exhibit includes medals, caps, scepters, guards' uniforms and an extensive collection of video documents.
