Description
Mahakan Fort is one of the few original fortifications in Bangkok, built in 1783 during the reign of King Rama I. This octagonal fort was part of a defensive system to protect the newly established capital of Rattanakosin from potential invasions, especially from the Burmese.
Next to the fort is the historic village of Mahakan, whose community has lived there for more than 200 years. The wooden houses and stories of the residents create a living museum of heritage, offering a deeper understanding of Bangkok's cultural richness.
The site is a fascinating blend of history, architecture and heritage, ideal for history buffs and travelers seeking an authentic experience.
