Description
The Triumphal Arch in Innsbruck is an impressive monument dating back to 1765, commemorating the wedding of Archduke Leopold to Spanish Princess Maria Luisa.
This Baroque structure made of distinctive Höttinger breccia stone has two sides with different symbolism - the southern side depicts the wedding motifs, while the northern side commemorates the sudden death of Emperor Franz Stephan, which occurred shortly after the wedding festivities.
It is decorated with marble reliefs and inscriptions depicting state symbols of the Habsburg monarchy. It is an excellent starting point for exploring the historic center of the city.
