Description
Letterkeen Trailhead is a unique starting point for hiking trails in the heart of Wild Nephin Ballycroy National Park.
The trail, marked with purple arrows, leads through a variety of terrain - riverbanks, bridges, forest roads, bogs and mountain slopes. A climb of 350 meters rewards with breathtaking views of the Nephin Beg range.
The area remained forestless until 1951, when the government introduced a forestry development program, planting Japanese pine and larch on the slopes and Sitka spruce in the fertile valleys.
