Description
La Barbacane is a fascinating medieval fortification dating back to the 14th century, built during the Hundred Years' War to protect the city of Cahors from English invaders.
This unique defensive structure features walls with numerous firing holes that served archers and marksmen. Although you can't visit the interior, the exterior architecture is an excellent example of medieval fortification art.
Combine viewing Barbacane with other Cahors attractions such as the famous Valentré Bridge and the Fontaine des Chartreux, a natural spring once revered by the Celts as a place of worship for the water goddess Divona.
