Description
The Frederic Chopin Monument is one of the most recognizable symbols of Warsaw, designed by Waclaw Szymanowski in the Art Nouveau style. It depicts the composer sitting under a stylized weeping willow tree, with his right hand raised, as if over an invisible piano keyboard.
The monument has a tumultuous history - unveiled in 1926, it was destroyed by the Nazis in 1940 and then rebuilt in 1958. On summer Sundays, famous Chopin concerts are held at the foot of the monument, attracting music lovers from all over the world.
