Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption and Saint Orontius

The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Orontius is a Baroque masterpiece in the heart of Lecce. Designed by Giuseppe Zimbalo and completed in 1689, it impresses with its rich north façade with imposing columns and sculptures of saints.

The interior, with a Latin cross plan, conceals a marble main altar, a wooden ceiling with paintings and twelve side chapels. Particularly noteworthy is the 12th century crypt with 92 columns decorated with human figures.
