Description
The Roman Catholic Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul is the first Baroque church in Krakow, built between 1597 and 1619. This architectural gem impresses with its impressive two-story façade with niches housing statues of Jesuit saints.
The interior of the church is decorated with magnificent stucco by renowned artists, including Giovanni Battista Falconi. The late Baroque altarpiece designed by Kacper Bazanka conceals the painting 'Handing of the Keys to St. Peter' from 1820.
A curiosity is the Foucault's Pendulum placed here, demonstrating the rotation of the Earth. The church also serves as the National Pantheon, where prominent Poles are laid to rest.
