Description

The Podgórze Mine in Kowary is the second largest uranium mine in Poland with a fascinating history dating back to the 12th century.

A 1,600-meter-long underground tourist route lets you learn the secrets of uranium and iron ore mining. An unusual attraction is the collection of uranium glass that glows under UV light and the place where the Polish deep-sea diving record was beaten.

From 1974 to 1989, Poland's only radon inhalation chamber, one of four in the world, operated here. The temperature inside is about 8°C with 97% humidity, so it is worth taking warm clothes and comfortable shoes.
