Description
Kells Round Tower is a fascinating monument of medieval Ireland, built in the 10th century. This imposing 26-meter-high sandstone and limestone structure served as a bell tower and a refuge during Viking raids.
A unique feature of the tower is the five windows on the top floor, facing the four directions of the world and the main road, which provided an early warning system against invaders.
Next to the tower are the famous high crosses, including the Cross of St. Patrick and St. Columba, decorated with intriguing carvings depicting biblical scenes.
