Description
Málaga Cathedral is a fascinating example of a combination of architectural styles: Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque. Called 'La Manquita' (the one-armed lady) because of its unfinished second tower, it was built over 250 years (1528-1782).
The interior is stunning with magnificent works of art, including Gothic altars and carved wooden choir stalls by Pedro de Mena, depicting scenes from the life of Jesus. A panoramic view of the city can be enjoyed from the only completed tower, after climbing 200 steps.
The cathedral stands on the site of a former mosque from the time of Moorish rule, which adds to its historical significance.
