Description
The Cathedral of Cefalù is a UNESCO-listed jewel of Norman architecture in Sicily. Built between 1131 and 1240 on the orders of King Roger II, who vowed to erect the temple after being rescued from a sea storm.
The interior of the cathedral is resplendent with Byzantine mosaics, the most famous of which depicts Christ Pantocrator in the apse. This masterful painting from 1148 combines Greek and Latin traditions, as seen in the bilingual inscriptions.
The observation decks on the cathedral's towers offer breathtaking views of the sea and the picturesque town. It is an ideal destination for lovers of history, architecture and sacred art.
