Description
The St. James Cathedral in Innsbruck is a true gem of Baroque architecture, built between 1717 and 1724 on the site of a Romanesque temple from the 12th century.
The interior of the cathedral impresses with its uniform Baroque style with three domes over the nave and a lantern dome over the chancel.
The temple's most valuable treasure is the painting 'Maria Hilf' (Mary Help of Christians) by Lucas Cranach the Elder - one of the most revered Marian representations in Christianity.
The cathedral is an excellent example of Innsbruck's rich cultural heritage and is a must-see for lovers of sacred art and history.
