Description
St. Mary's Cathedral in Limerick is the oldest building in the city, founded in 1168.
This unique temple combines elements of Romanesque and Gothic architecture, and its west door bears traces of sword and arrow sharpening during sieges.
Inside is the only complete set of misericords in Ireland and an impressive high altar made from a single piece of limestone - the largest of its kind in the country. Black oak stalls decorated with carvings of mythical creatures add to the mysterious character of the place.
