Description
The Kalon Minaret is a majestic 46-meter tower from the 12th century that survived the invasion of Genghis Khan and Soviet bombing. Built in 1127 from brick, it impresses with 14 bands of geometric patterns and rare blue glazed friezes.
One of the few buildings in Central Asia with preserved Kufic inscriptions, it was called the 'lantern' for the caravans of the Silk Road. It dominates the panorama of Bukhara as part of the Poi-Kalyan complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
