Description
Janiculum is the second highest hill in Rome, offering breathtaking views of the entire city.
It's a place full of history, from its ancient fortifications to its pivotal role in the unification of Italy in the 19th century. Strolling along the Passeggiata del Gianicolo avenue, you can admire marble busts of national heroes and a monumental statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi.
There are also architectural gems on the hill: the Church of San Pietro in Montorio, Bramante's Tempietto and the Baroque fountain Fontana dell'Acqua Paola. Every day at noon, the traditional cannon shot, introduced by Pope Pius IX in 1847, resounds here.
