Description
Emancipation Park is a living monument to freedom in the heart of New Kingston, commemorating the abolition of slavery in 1834. This six-acre oasis of tranquility delights with lush gardens featuring palm trees and tropical plants, and its centerpiece is the iconic 11-meter sculpture 'Redemption Song' by Laura Facey - two figures rising toward the sky in triumph over enslavement. The park is full of Adinkra symbols on benches and fences, honoring its African roots, and historical exhibits introduce heroes such as Nanny of the Maroons and Samuel Sharpe.
