Fortress of Montalcino

Forteca Montalcino is a historic fortress dating back to 1361 that has never been conquered by enemies. This pentagonal monument of military architecture impresses with its perfectly preserved walls, towers and inner courtyard.

The battlements offer a breathtaking view of the Tuscan hills. Inside there is a wine store where you can taste the famous Brunello di Montalcino.

In the fall, the fortress comes alive during the Sagra del Tordo festival, when locals in medieval costumes compete in an archery contest beneath the fortress walls.
