Description
The Pantheon in Rome is one of the best preserved monuments of ancient Rome.
This majestic rotunda with a distinctive oculus (hole in the dome) was built between 118 and 125 AD by Emperor Hadrian. The impressive dome, 43.34 meters in diameter, was an architectural marvel of its time.
Originally a temple of all the gods, it was converted into a Christian church in 609. Inside are the tombs of prominent figures, including Raphael and Bernini.
The play of light coming in through the oculus creates an amazing atmosphere, changing depending on the time of day.
