Castello di Fénis

The Castello di Fénis is a unique medieval castle with a distinctive pentagonal shape with round turrets at each corner. It impresses with double walls with blanks and rich frescoes depicting sages, prophets and religious scenes, including St. George fighting a dragon.

Inside, visitors can admire the semi-circular stone staircase and wooden balconies decorated with paintings. The castle was not a typical defensive fortress, but a prestigious residence of the noble Challant family, controlling trade and religious routes, including the Via Francigena.
