Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre

Dalkey Castle & Heritage Center is an authentic defensive castle dating back to 1390, one of seven medieval harbor fortifications that have survived to this day.

Living history comes alive with costumed theatrical performances—14th-century archers, cooks preparing medieval recipes, and surgeons creating potions. The Writers' Gallery celebrates 45 Irish writers, from Joyce to Bono.

From dungeons to defensive battlements, the castle has retained its authentic features - machicolations, murder holes, and arrow slits. Next door is the 10th-century St. Begnet's Church, adding an archaeological dimension.
