Description
Imperia is an imposing nine-meter-tall statue standing in the port of Konstanz, a satirical symbol of the Council of Constance (1414-1418).
This sculpture, which rotates every four minutes, by Peter Lenk, depicts a giant woman holding figures of Pope Martin V and Emperor Sigismund, referring to Honoré de Balzac's short story 'La Belle Impéria'.
The statue weighs 18 tons and is a fascinating combination of art and history. It is the perfect place to learn about the city's medieval history and enjoy the picturesque view of Lake Constance.
