Description
The Nyúli pincesor is a fascinating historical monument located in the picturesque Hungarian village of Nyúl. It is a unique series of wine cellars carved directly into the vertical walls of the impressive Szurdik sandstone gorge, stretching 630 meters in length.
The oldest cellars, like Sárkánylik, are at least 500 years old and originally served as tithe cellars where the local church collected wine as a form of tax.
The place exudes a Mediterranean atmosphere, and in addition to the cellars, you can see the so-called 'partlakás' - cave dwellings in the loess walls, inhabited until the 1950s.
