Description

Edinburgh Castle is one of the oldest and most historically significant fortresses in Europe, towering 135 meters above sea level.

This royal residence with a history of more than 1,000 years has witnessed 26 sieges, making it the most besieged site in Britain.

Visitors can admire the oldest surviving building - St. Margaret's Chapel, the 1511 Great Hall and the famous Mons Meg cannon. The castle is also home to the Scottish crown jewels and the Stone of Destiny.

avatarSasha Hardman3 weeks agoThe castle is so well presented for viewing from those who have very little knowledge of this beautiful building. There is a wide range of exhibits and places of interest to visit. I’d highly recommend getting the audio guide if you’re not going with a tour. Be aware that parts of the castle are steep and cobbled so challenging if you’re not have mobility issues. It is very beautiful though and well worth a visit. In the summer definitely book in advance as they sell out most days.
avatarBrian White2 weeks agoExcellent access to a working, manned castle, where some of the most impactful moments in human history have taken place. Definitely busy so for those who don't care for crowds, you may wish to find the lowest volume days of the year because this place was busier than my last trip to Disneyland.
avatarAshlee Holmesa week agoWow! What a wonderful way to spend a morning or afternoon while in Scotland! Stunning. I definitely recommend hiring a local guide, because there is so much to see and understand, and you'll miss out on so much if you go it on your own. I would give yourself around 3 hours to your and walk the grounds. Be sure to tour around all the edges of the Castle grounds for beautiful panorama views of Edinburgh! My student group absolutely loved it! As the city is built around the Castle grounds, there is also SO much to do once you're done at the castle.
