Description
World Heritage Grimeton Radio Station is a unique technical monument listed by UNESCO. Built between 1922 and 1924, this unique radio station is the only surviving example of a broadcasting station based on pre-electronic technology.
Equipped with an Alexanderson alternator, it allowed transatlantic communication using Morse code. Six 127-meter-high steel towers and neoclassical-style buildings form an impressive complex.
Every year, during Alexanderson Day, the transmitter is activated and broadcasts short coded messages that can be received throughout Europe. It is a fascinating place for lovers of the history of technology and radio communication.
