Description
Wernerkapelle is the fascinating ruins of a Gothic chapel in Bachary, built between 1289 and 1430.
This unique building in the High German Gothic style was built as a place of pilgrimage in honor of Werner of Oberwesel, a 16-year-old boy murdered in 1287.
During the Romantic period, the chapel was considered one of the most beautiful ruins in Germany. Today it is not only an architectural monument, but also an important history lesson about tolerance between different religious and cultural groups.
