Vicksburg National Military Park

Vicksburg National Military Park is where Civil War history comes to life before your eyes. The park commemorates the pivotal 1863 battle, whose capture by Union forces on July 4 was a watershed moment in the conflict.

Within the park you'll find more than 1,400 monuments, plaques and markers honoring soldiers from both sides of the conflict and 20 miles of reconstructed trenches and fortifications.

An unusual attraction is the USS Cairo, a restored warship complete with a museum displaying artifacts from the era. The park's hilly roads are also popular with cyclists and hikers.
