Description
Uley Long Barrow (Hetty Pegler's Tump) is a fascinating Neolithic tomb more than 5,000 years old, and is one of the best-preserved Cotswold-Severn type barrows in Britain.
This prehistoric structure features a central corridor with chambers on the sides, where the remains of 15-20 people have been found. The atmospheric interior of the tomb is best explored with a flashlight to fully appreciate the craftsmanship of the builders thousands of years ago.
Coins and pottery fragments discovered inside prove that the barrow was visited as early as Roman times. The nearby hill offers a picturesque view of the Severn Valley.
