Description

Silver Mountain Fortress is one of the most magnificent mountain fortresses in Europe, built between 1765 and 1777 by order of Frederick II.

This monumental structure stretches over three hills and consists of six forts connected by a system of bastions. The fortress was a self-sufficient town with its own bakery, brewery, hospital and prison, capable of housing more than 3,700 soldiers during a year-long siege.

Never captured in battle, it successfully resisted even Napoleon's troops in 1807. Today, visitors can admire the impressive military architecture and enjoy breathtaking views from the deepest fortress well (84 meters) in Fort Ostrog.
