Description
The walls of Derry are the only fully preserved city walls in Ireland and one of the finest examples of fortified cities in Europe. Built between 1613 and 1618, they surround the city center for 1.5 kilometers and rise up to 8 meters high.
Walking around the walls, you admire the Renaissance street layout and discover the city's rich history. Four original gates - Bishop's Gate, Ferryquay Gate, Butcher Gate and Shipquay Gate - and an impressive collection of cannons, including the famous 'Roaring Meg,' recall the dramatic sieges of the 17th century.
It's a fascinating journey back in time for lovers of history and architecture.
