Description
Skansen Kronan is an impressive 17th century fortification built on Skansberget Hill in Gothenburg.
This octagonal structure with walls 7 meters thick was built between 1687 and 1698 as part of the city's defense system. A distinctive feature of the fort is the wooden crown on top, originally made of gilded wood in 1699.
The observation deck offers a breathtaking panorama of Gothenburg. A cozy café operates here in the summer, and the fort is also a popular venue for private celebrations.

Visiting Skansen Kronan in Gothenburg was such a pleasant way to spend a Sunday evening. The walk up to the top is a bit of a winding snake 🐍 of a climb, but once you're there, the view over the city is absolutely worth it 🌇
The kids especially loved climbing on the old cannons, while we adults enjoyed admiring the building and taking a well-earned rest at the top 🛋️. The atmosphere was peaceful and the history wrapped in stone felt almost timeless.
Highly recommended if you're looking for a calm little outing on a Sunday evening – with just the right mix of effort, views, and charm ✨📸
Andy Blackburn3 weeks agoWe saw the steps, barricaded at the bottom to stop access, being used regardless of this. So we decided to go round the barricade and walk up to the top. Unfortunately the redoubt is closed due to renovations taking place. The views of the city and surrounds are somewhat blocked by trees but still worth the exertion.
Raiyad Raada week agoIf not for the castle you should go for the view. The view of the Gothenburg city from the top is amazing. From Centralstationen take tram 1 (Ostra) and get off at Prinsgatan station. 10 minutes walk from there. Don't forget to walk around the Haga city after visiting the castle.Related categories
