Description
Portland Castle is one of Henry VIII's best-preserved castles in Britain, built in 1539-40 as a defense against French and Spanish invasion. Its unique fan-shaped architecture with a curved central tower delights history buffs.
Fascinating historical exhibits await in the castle, including a two-story tower, an octagonal hall, a furnished Tudor-era kitchen and an armory with soldier costumes. Audio guided tours explore the 450-year history of the site, including its role during both world wars.
The observation deck offers picturesque views of the coastline, and you can relax with tea in the Captain's Tearoom.
