Description
Pantheon of the Fatherland is an impressive historical monument in the heart of Santo Domingo's colonial district. Built between 1714 and 1746 by Geronimo Quezada y Garçon, it combines Neoclassical and Renaissance styles.
Originally a Jesuit church, it served various functions, from a tobacco warehouse to the first Dominican theater. In the 1950s, it was converted into a national mausoleum honoring Dominican heroes.
The interior is resplendent with marble decor and eternal flames, creating an atmosphere of solemnity and reverence. The facility is guarded by a presidential honor guard in historic uniforms.
