Description
North Hinksey Conduit House is a fascinating 17th century monument resembling a miniature medieval temple. Built in 1610 by Otho Nicholson, it was part of a system that supplied clean drinking water to Oxford.
The building impresses with its unique architectural details - two large gable buttresses, narrow window openings resembling gunpits, and the Nicholson coat of arms above the eastern wall.
On the outer walls you can admire beautifully carved graffiti from the 17th-19th centuries, the oldest of which dates back to 1634. It is an ideal place for history and architecture lovers, also offering picturesque views of the surrounding countryside.
